Studing“Parents are their children’s first and life-long teachers”

Studies show that children perform better if their parents are involved in their education. Parents therefore have an important role to play in supporting their child’s learning here at Leaside Children’s House.

Our goal is to provide your family with a positive learning environment, the finest educational program, and services that promote outstanding student achievement.

We believe in having an open door communication policy with parents and welcome them to visit our classrooms. There will also be many events throughout the year where parent participation would be very welcome. These events include: field trips or outside excursions, winter concert, fundraising initiatives and more.

We believe that sharing information with parents is extremely important. We share information through: calendars of events, parent teacher conferences, discussions and meetings, progress reports, student work samples, through bulletin boards as well as the informal daily chats with teachers. All these ways helps us keep in touch.

Providing encouragement at home is a vital part to the success of our program. Reading to your child every day will have a significant impact on their success in our program. Through positive communication and cooperation with parents, we are able to meet the needs of the whole child. And we can work together to ensure that children receive the very best education!

The Importance of Partnerships

I dreamed I stood in a studio
And watched two sculptors there.
The clay they worked with was a young child’s mind,
And they fashioned it with care.

One was a teacher, the tools she used
Were books and music and art;
One parent with a guiding hand,
And a gently loving heart.

Day after day the teacher worked,
With a touch that was deft and sure,
While the family also did their part,
And polished and smoothed it over.

And when at last the task was done,
They were proud of what they had taught,
For things they had given to the child
Could neither be sold or bought.

And each agreed they may have failed
If each had worked alone,
For behind the teacher stood the school,
And behind the parent, the family home.
